The apparently blatant and screaming homo-eroticism so many equally screaming girls find throughout pop culture.
I watch and have watched a number of films/series’ etc that have huge “fandoms” that are bordering on tyrannical in their insistence that the key characters want to stick it up each others butts. Yet I never see it. What I see in these situations is the friendship, theres nothing wrong with two people (regardless of sex & sexuality) having a deep and meaningful connection without it meaning “THEY MUST BE FUCKING”.
I suppose the fandom in which this annoys me the most is The Sherlock Holmes fandom (Sherlockians, whatever) that has spawned from the “Sherlock” series. There is a relative amount of what I believe is called “fan service”(?) in this series that just makes it all the worse. Yes, I believe Holmes & Watson are soul mates, but not in the (I dislike to use the term) romantic sense in which the Sherlock series’ attempts to push it. Yes, I see you’re trying to modernise it, but don’t alter the characters relationship. And yes, they have altered the relationship by presenting it in the way they have.
To clarify, no I’m not “bashing on your fandom” or any fandom in which this appears (many) - I’m just saying, I don’t see it and in certain cases, I don’t like it. 9.99 times out of 10 it is blown enormously out of proportion.
theres something mindnumbing about saying you support equality while you’re treating gay people like a novelty
